The views of students and faculty members of nursing and midwifery about clinical education problems

Abstract:

Introduction. With recognition of clinical education problems in nursing and midwifery, the people in charge will be able to plan the optimal education programs to promote quality presentation of health services to all persons of the community. Surveying the view points of students and faculty members of nursing and midwifery about clinical education problems were the aims of this study. Methods. This descriptive- study was carried on 111 students of seventh and eighth term of nursing & midwifery and also ten masters of these courses in kerman Nursing- Midwifery college. The data was collected using a questionnaire consisting of two parts: Demographic characteristics and a scale to assess clinical education problems. In the part of assessing clinical education problems, there was 6 effective subjects consisting of: role playing problems, stress causing factors, preclinical practice, self reliance, environmental factors and educated methods application in clinical. In data analysis Mean, Standard Deviation, t-test, Pearson correlation and ANOVA statistics were used. Results. The obtained results revealed that in the view of students and faculty members, the most clinical education problem was: environmental- clinical factors (with the mean of 6.09 2.5) and educated methods application in clinical (with the mean of 6.13 4) respectively. Between environmental- clinical factors, 95% of students believed that lack of convenience facilities was the most important problem. And between educated methods application in clinical, 100% of masters believed that insufficient education equipments and also incorrect routine decisions were the most problems. Discussion. Requirement for quality promotion in education system is felt severely. Emphasis on patients to gain health after quality promotion of education is accounted as effectiveness indicator.
